vivo Announces X Fold, Its First Foldable Phone

vivo recently unveiled its first foldable phone, the vivo X Fold, a premium device built for efficiency, convenience and exciting new user experiences. vivo X Fold is a superior foldable smartphone that integrates a multitude of industry-leading technologies to outperform previous foldable products in terms of screen crease optimization and hinge durability.

Boasting a series of innovations in display technology, chip performance, battery life and camera system, the vivo X Fold ushers in a new era of foldable devices. In addition to the vivo X Fold, the flagship lineup includes the vivo X Note, its smartphone featuring a large display, as well as its first flagship tablet, the vivo Pad.

Boasting a large 7-inch display with a golden aspect ratio of 21:10, the X Note is purpose-built for productivity. It features enhanced security features such as remote SIM card lock, 3D Ultrasonic Large Fingerprint Sensor and Qualcomm Secure Processing Unit (SPU) chipset-level security protection to effectively guard user privacy and security. With dedicated mobile office features and its ZEISS Camera System, the X Note redefines the large-screen business flagship smartphone space by combining business functionalities, exceptional camera system, flagship performance and design embedded with traditional Chinese design elements.

vivo's first flagship tablet, vivo Pad, was also announced at the launch event. An upgrade from its predecessor, the vivo Pad boasts flagship specs with a fully optimized operating system for larger-screen devices and includes features tailored for various user scenarios such as work and office use as well as educational purposes to provide a dynamic yet refined user experience.

Multi-Dimensional Hinge Enables vivo X Fold to Withstand Over 300,000 Bends

The hinge is a key component in foldable smartphones as it impacts the overall performance of all foldable phones. The multi-dimensional hinge in the vivo X Fold is durable and reliable, and is measured to be able to withstand 300,000 bends according to a TÜV Rheinland test[1], where the crease control remains excellent after strenuous testing. For the average user who would potentially fold the device up to 80 times a day, the vivo X Fold is slated to function properly for 10 years. The vivo X Fold hinge is made up of 174 parts, using sixfold aerospace-grade materials such as zirconium alloys and FS53 Aviation-level High Strength Steel, allowing for robust performance in smoothness, strength and shock resistance.

The vivo X Fold uses a floating medium plate design to optimize the screen crease. When the phone opens, the floating medium plate ascends, lifting the crease in the center of the screen and makes the screen flatter. When the phone folds, the floating medium plate descends, providing ample space for the screen to bend, while providing protection and durability for the device.

In addition, the vivo X Fold also adopts ultra-resilient Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) in a unique staggered structure and sports a waterdrop-shaped hinge structure at the smallest bend radius of 2.3mm (folding left and right) in the industry. The combination of multiple technologies ensures that the crease remains narrow and straight over time, eliminating the issue of bulging.

vivo X Fold Boasts Excellent Inner and Outer Screens

As a flagship foldable smartphone, the vivo X Fold harnesses top display technology for both inner and outer screens. The 8.03-inch inner foldable screen is one of the industry's largest screens, delivering tablet-like viewing and operating experiences making it ideal for work and productivity. The 6.53-inch outer screen is slightly curved with aspect ratio of 21:9 making it the largest in the industry, offering users the option to seamlessly use the device as a conventional candy bar smartphone when folded. Owing to the exceptional screen quality, the vivo X Fold is the world's first smartphone to obtain a DisplayMate A+ level certification for 19 performance criteria, proving the top-notch quality of its display capabilities.

Unlike conventional smartphones, a foldable phone requires higher colour and display consistency as the device needs to switch between both inner and outer screens. Both screens on the vivo X Fold are capable of 120Hz refresh rate and uses E5 luminescent material. Paired with the company's self-developed colour calibration algorithm, the screens can achieve higher brightness, smoothness and color consistency. The device solves the issue of visual inconsistencies faced in other foldable screens, resulting in more visual coherence and smoothness when switching between screens. The inner screen with LTPO adaptive refresh rate guarantees a satisfactory display effect and excellent power control.

In addition, the vivo X Fold is the world's first foldable phone with 3D Ultrasonic Dual Fingerprint Sensors on both screens which allows users to unlock the phone easily, notably enhancing both convenience and security. The 3D Ultrasonic Dual Fingerprint Sensors on the phone achieved recognition accuracy close to a 100%, and a 38.7% unlock speed boost over traditional photoelectric fingerprint sensors.

The vivo X Note also has an Ultrasonic Large Fingerprint Sensor, featuring a fingerprint recognition area 11.1 times larger than single-point photoelectric fingerprint sensors, which allows for faster, more accurate unlocking.

Top-of-the-Line Flagship Performance

The vivo X Fold is built to deliver the ultimate performance and versatility. The device is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 with customized SPU built using 4nm MEP process. The new flagship chipset offers a 10% CPU performance improvement and 30% GPU rendering speed increase compared to the previous-generation Snapdragon 888 processor, scoring over 1 million points in AnTuTu.

Paired with a UFS3.1 flash memory and enhanced LPDDR5 RAM, the vivo X Fold offers cutting-edge speed. Adding on, the phone is equipped with the vivo's self-developed Triple Performance Engine, which ensures that the device will function smoother with enhanced stability and saving more power.

vivo X Fold is priced at RMB 8,999 and RMB 9,999 for the 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB editions, respectively.

X Note is priced at RMB 5,999, RMB 6,499 and RMB 6,999 for the 8GB+256GB, 12BG+256GB and 12GB+512GB editions, respectively.

vivo Pad is priced at RMB 2,499 and RMB 2,999 for the 8GB+128GB and 8GB+256GB editions, respectively.
